"USD 2 billion and 13,000 jobs: Corrientes aims to make an industrial leap."

By Julian Galeano

Portada

The Corrientes province appears on the economic map with a large-scale project: the company ARPULP SA announced a USD 2 billion investment to build a pulp plant in Ituzaingó. The initiative promises to generate around 13,000 jobs, including direct and indirect employment.

The project aims to produce Fluff pulp, a raw material used to manufacture hygiene products. According to the data released, the plant would have an estimated capacity of 800,000 tons annually from pine fiber, linking it directly to the province's forestry potential.

A signal for the real economy

Beyond the announcement, the relevant data is the type of investment: it is not about financial speculation or public spending to sustain unproductive structures, but rather capital applied to industry, production, potential exports, and private employment. In an Argentina that needs dollars, formal jobs, and development outside the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), this type of project compels us to view the interior with a different perspective.

Now, the key will be to see if the investment actually progresses, if it obtains permits, financing, infrastructure, logistics, and stable conditions to operate. Argentina has a history of grand announcements that are later delayed or trapped in bureaucratic hurdles.

A variable to follow

If the project materializes, it could be an important sign: the country has productive sectors capable of attracting large investments when there are resources, demand, and clear rules. The question is whether Argentina will be able to convert these types of announcements into sustained development policy.

For now, Corrientes puts a concrete possibility on the table: transforming forestry potential into industry, employment, and added value. We will have to see if this time the announcement turns into real action.
