The teacher's last class

The teacher's last class

September 11 is a key date in Argentine history, marked by the figure of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, the father of the classroom. The teacher, writer and politician born in San Juan left an indelible legacy in education, transforming generations "with the pen, the sword and the word". In this 2024, another master figure joins the commemoration, although from a different sphere: Charly García. September 11, Teacher's Day, will also be the day when the genius of national rock will present La lógica del escorpión, his new and long-awaited album.

Just as Sarmiento educated with his tools, Charly has formed, through his music, a guide in popular culture. Now he continues his legacy with pen, keyboard and lyrics, inviting his followers to one more lesson of musical genius, just on a day dedicated to those who, in one way or another, have taught to build futures.

The logic of the scorpion, the last dance.

Those who had the privilege of listening to the material on the day of its presentation affirm that this is a new work of art by Carlos Alberto García Moreno. Although they do not consider it to be at the same level as his greatest hits such as Yendo de la cama al living room, Clics modernos or Piano Bar, among others, they find it superior to Random, his last release to date. Neither does it maintain the power of his voice as in Parte de la religión or Cómo conseguir chicas, but under the Sonic Music label it promises to be a new genius from the man with the two-colored mustache.

The work consists of thirteen songs, making the album almost thirty-five minutes of pure music. The elaboration resulted in new compositions such as "Rompela", composition that opens the CD, reversions of his classics such as "Juan Represión" by Sui Generis from 1974, covers of international artists such as"Watching the Wheels" by John Lennon.

Another promising element is the renown of the musicians who collaborated with the keyboardist. David Lebón with whom he lived moments of glory in Serú Girán is part of "El Club de los 27" and "La Medicina n°9" being the third and fourth track of the album respectively. It was also confirmed the presence of Pedro Aznar who was also part of Serú and recorded an album together called Tango 4. The magician of the four strings appears in "América", located in the seventh place. To close the production, Fito Paez, an old friend of Charly's, could not fail to be present. Both join forces to pay homage to The Byrds with the classic"Rock and Roll Star" from 1967.

The wind is old and it keeps blowing.

After Random's departure, the icon continued giving concerts until 2019 when he played at the mythical Luna Park. His fans clung to every sporadic appearance like that surprise one at the Kirchner Cultural Center (now Palacio Libertad) on his seventieth birthday. In the midst of all this there were strong rumors about his health, rumors that always accompanied him during his career. Fans clung to every wink from their idol waiting for signs of a new work if it ever came. The wait grew longer and longer, becoming almost interminable as the void left by his musical silence grew. However, as always happens with the great masters, in 2023 his backing vocalist Rosario Ortega published a photo from a recording studio with him, suggesting that Charly was coming back when he was least expected at seventy-two years old, but when he was most needed for one last dance.

Throughout the decades, the former Serú Girán has managed to remain in the heart of Argentine rock as a key figure. From his first steps with Sui Generis and La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros to his solo career, he has shown a unique versatility to adapt and reinvent himself without losing the essence that has made him who he is. In a music scene that has changed radically, where artists are short-lived at the top and the culture of ephemerality is increasingly predominant in the industry, Charly continues to be a beacon of reference, setting the course for new generations.

Now, at seventy-two years of age, he defies expectations once again with La lógica del escorpión, demonstrating that creativity has no expiration date. Far from giving in to time, he continues to explore new sounds and themes, remaining faithful to his rebellious and genuine style. His validity is not only reflected in his ability to produce, but also in his ability to interpret and channel the collective feelings of different times.

While the vast majority of artists see their luster fade over the years, Charly continues to connect with a diverse audience that encompasses both those who grew up with his music and those who discover him in the streaming era. His legacy transcends generations, and with this new album he reaffirms his place as an inexhaustible master of music. Each new project is a lesson in irreverence, genius and artistic commitment.

Love (no longer) waits.

As his music continues to resonate with unmatched vitality, there is no doubt that his influence transcends generations. With La lógica del escorpión, García not only reaffirms his place in history, but also invites us on a new sonic journey full of nuance and reflection. Charly's mastery is mixed with an artistic maturity that only the years could give him.

His legacy, like Sarmiento's and his role as a "maestro" of music remains essential. Remember that true mastery is not only found in the past, but lives in the present, challenging and always relevant. Thus, The Logic of the Scorpion is not just a new work; it is a testament to the endurance of his artistry and his unwavering influence on contemporary music. The album is ready and the headphones are ready. Say No More.
