Is another Biden presidency viable? Reflections on his candidacy and American democracy

```
Joe Biden vs Donald Trump
American democracy faces a very important moment with the upcoming presidential elections. President Joe Biden has insisted that these elections will determine the future of democracy in the country, a statement that should not be taken lightly. However, the question that arises is whether Biden is the right candidate to lead this country in such a changing political context.
Donald Trump, with his unpredictable behavior and tendency to challenge democratic norms, has endangered the stability of the American political system. His followers have planned actions that, if implemented, could consolidate excessive power in the presidency, putting the principles of American democracy at risk. In response, Biden has claimed to be the most suitable candidate to prevent this scenario, based on his 2020 electoral victory.
However, Biden's recent participation in the debate has raised doubts and questions about his ability to face another presidential term. His performance showed difficulties in articulating his proposals and responding effectively and fluently to Trump's provocations, which increased concerns about his fitness for office. The question of whether Biden, at 81 years old, can handle the demands of the presidency for another four years is more relevant than ever.
If the contest boils down to a competition between Biden and Trump, many voters might feel trapped between two suboptimal options. To avoid this issue, the Democratic Party should seriously consider the possibility of presenting a new candidate who can confront Trump more effectively. The country's stability and security should not be jeopardized by loyalty to a candidate whose capabilities are in question.
It is crucial to highlight that the decision to step aside might be difficult for Biden, known for his track record in facing personal and political controversies. His supporters argue that his achievements over the last three years should be the true criterion for evaluation, rather than his performance in a single debate. But it is evident that concerns about his mental sharpness cannot be ignored.
Polls reflect that many voters desire new voices to confront Trump. There is still time for the Democratic Party to support an alternative candidate. In many democracies, electoral campaigns develop over a much shorter period than in the United States, allowing for candidacy changes without causing a major shift.
Trump's behavior in the debate should also have been sufficient reason for Republicans to reconsider their support. His lies about his record and future plans, along with his divisive rhetoric, continue to be a threat to stability. However, the Republican Party seems dominated by Trump's ambitions, leaving the responsibility to protect democracy in the hands of the Democratic Party.
Can Biden offer the direction the United States needs in these times? Or would his legacy, admirable as it is, be better complemented by fresh and more energetic leadership? These are questions we cannot ignore as we approach the elections. American democracy deserves a deep debate about who is best positioned to guide the country into the future.
