The King Felipe VI of Spain
The Palestinian-Israeli war continues to deepen diplomatic fractures among countries based on their international support. In this scenario of divisions and conflicting positions, the King of Spain, Felipe VI, clearly expressed his support for a political solution that considers “a viable Palestinian state.”
During his first official visit to Egypt, Felipe VI, along with Queen Letizia, denounced the “brutal and unacceptable suffering” that the Gaza Strip is enduring due to the Israeli offensive. In a meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, he expressed his concern about the international situation, seeking support from the African country and recognizing Egypt's key role as a mediator in the conflict. “We cannot and do not want to be indifferent to the reality that surrounds us,” he stated in the presence of the president.

The Spanish king valued Egypt's efforts to achieve a ceasefire, free hostages, and ensure the arrival of humanitarian aid to Palestinian territory. “We appreciate the mediating role that Egypt has been playing to achieve a ceasefire agreement, the release of hostages, and the full establishment of humanitarian aid,” he asserted.
In line with his statements in Cairo, Felipe VI explicitly defended the creation of a Palestinian state that includes the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, in accordance with the so-called “two-state solution” supported by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and other international bodies.
Thus, the Spanish king's diplomatic trip to Egypt aimed to strengthen political and economic ties between both countries but was inevitably marked by the backdrop of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Finally, Felipe VI reaffirmed that both Madrid and Cairo share “the goal of peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and reconciliation in the Middle East,” emphasizing the need for an environment of stability and justice that allows for the dignified development of peoples.
