The False Prophets of the Web3

In 1999 he began to see the beginning of what we call the web 2.0, a web that allowed not only to receive information, but also to send it and generate all kinds of interaction in it. But the reality is that most people and users were far from understanding that it was really web 2.0 and how this would change our entire paradigm of how we used the internet.

It ran the year 1999, and in an interview with David Bowie on the BBC Spotlight program, one of the most outrageous debates than we would then call web 2.0. In this interview, the interviewer unsuccessfully tried to convince Bowie that the “new” internet was no more than a new communication channel, similar to others that already existed. But Bowie could see further and explain that the change was even deeper, that the interaction between emitter and receiver was going to be so in- sympathy, that the internet was going to completely lay down our concepts of what communication and digitality meant.

At that time, people viewed web 2.0 as the possibility of being able to answer mails, have their forums, respond social media posts, and some more daring, in selling things over the internet. But they were far from what web 2.0 turned out to be. At that time, these users never imagined that 15 years later one would be able to choose products from the store closest to their home, and that these products would come from the hand of an unknown, working for an app in another country, and all without using a physical note in the process. At that time they did not imagine that 15 years in the future, one would know their future couple and perhaps the love of their life through a dating app. And much less imagined that 15 years later millions of users around the world went out to squares looking for digital pokemons. At these times, they didn't think people would take “selfies” and use dog ears on the screen. At that time, they didn't even imagine a portable mobile phone or talk about apps.

Thus of primitive were the origins of web 2.0, it was a whole panorama to be discovered, and still, arose those who today called the “false prophets”, authors, scientists, economists, technologists who came to say that web 2.0 was like this or wing. They sold and counted how a type of web was better than another, they counted how useless social networks were and even some were excited to judge possible tactile technologies on mobile phones. Some even went so far in saying that web 2.0 could not live on mobile phones, only on computers. All wrong for the passing of time, but on your floor they tricked a lot of people into thinking like them. In my memory, my father who at peace rest, was one of these, for years he reneged against social networks arguing many authors and scientists who spoke of the imminent fall of social networks and the loss of time they represented. It was a matter of years and my dear old man was on all social networks, even a YouTube channel had. This example, dizzy, is only one of thousands, and in these examples there are also people who have lost money, investment opportunity, creation, and even some have lost their lives, or have forgotten the mass of suicides of Y2K by the “imminent collapse of technology”.

Today I see the same happening on web 3, many news, videos and comments similar to “the NFT are a farce”, “the fall of the metaverses”, “the crypto are a bubble”, “all this of web 3 will not work”, and so I can follow and follow. But even in smaller things we find with these false prophets: in comments like “ethereum is better than such a coin”, “the NFTs of Solana are all a theft”, “Decentraland has no chances as metaverse”, “the only cryptocurrency is bitcoin”, “the AI will take away our work”. The criticisms and false promises that bomb us day-to-day accumulate like this.

The web 3 is in diapers, and when I say diapers I do not speak of these for babies 2 years, I speak for babies 5 months. It's so young that it's really impossible to know it's gonna happen. However, there are already people talking about “which will pass on the web 3” with absolute certainty that scares. But the story and the facts call me to denounce these people, not in a desire to attack them, but if to prevent people who meet with them, to help them to have a critical look and understand that there is a lot to come yet.

The NFTs fell and are now on the rise again, with many serious projects and few scams. Strong coins continue to appear. Some coins like Solana that all predicted his death not to recover and gain weight. Decentraland is more active than ever and when Roblox appeared all criticized that he had nothing to do against other games, Roblox follows bigger than ever and Decentraland as well. We are creating more original images and simplifying steps at work thanks to the AI and I encourage myself to predict that very early AI will not take your work, but that will really help you find the work you really want. I could follow, but I think they understand my point, they understand that I will not attack or condemn anyone who has made a “false promise”, but if I come to say that they are wrong, because neither I am writing from web 3 and work on web 3, I really understand that it is web 3 and that is perfect because no one can do it.

As in the birth of web 2 no one would imagine that there would be something called “apps” and that basically could be a multiplicity of things, as no one would imagine that social movements would emerge that ended up invading the US Capitol through “social networks”. No one today can imagine how the web will be 3 in 5 years. And I don't just talk about technological changes like apps, I talk about social, cultural changes and how we identify ourselves as humans. 30 years ago, a person looking at the Palm of his hand for hours was rare, today is someone looking at his cell phone, and that affected us at a planetary and human race level (or maybe they don't have backaches after looking so much at the mobile screen). Web 2 has completely changed humanity and many people have had the boldness to say that this would not happen, the same happens today with web 3 and I think I know what will happen.

The only truth is that web 3 is building at this moment and if something taught us the technology throughout history, it is that it is not for, since the man invented the wheel, the technology did not stop and does not give signs that he will do it.

That only gives us three available places, the denial, think that we know everything and say that it won't work. Disbelief like my father’s in doubting everything by hearing “false prophets”. Or the place of the curious, the one who does not know it will happen, but is willing to dive into the theme to understand.

Be curious and do not create everything others say, because web 3 already moves alone and does not depend on what a prophet says on Twitter or on YouTube. And if you're reading this, you're lucky, because you arrived early for the next evolutionary change of the human race, serve some puchoclos with soda, the show is about to start.
