Blockchain is not only a technology, but also a social and cultural movement that challenges the status quo and empowers people to take control of their own data, assets and identities. In this movement, women are slowly playing a more active role as leaders and innovators. We are not only contributing to the development and adoption of technology, but also shaping its vision, values and impact.
Diversity is a key driver of innovation. In a field as emerging as decentralized finance, the inclusion of different perspectives is not only beneficial, but necessary. We can bring unique approaches, empathy and creative solutions to complex problems, enriching the development and implementation of new technologies.
Historically, finance and technology have been male-dominated sectors. Consequently, one of the main obstacles preventing us from entering the blockchain space is the lack of knowledge and understanding of what blockchain is, how it works and what one can do. Many women may feel, or have felt, intimidated or excluded by the technical language, the male-dominated culture or the "apparent complexity" of blockchain. Therefore, it is important to educate ourselves about the basic concepts and benefits of blockchain, and that resources and opportunities are provided to learn more and develop our skills.
One of the main benefits of getting involved is economic empowerment. Decentralized finance offers us the opportunity to take control over our finances without intermediaries. We can access advanced financial services, such as loans, investments and insurance, directly from our smartphone or computer. I want to emphasize that I am not just referring to purchasing power, but because it allows us to make decisions with freedom. It strengthens and raises self-esteem, regardless of gender.
The DeFi community is known for its openness and willingness to share knowledge. Today there are even undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate degrees and courses in different academic institutions. There are also countless free online resources, from tutorials to discussion forums, that can help us learn and acquire the necessary skills. There are also many references of the blockchain and web3 ecosystem on social networks (Twitter, Discord, Telegram, Instagram, LinkedIn). The world of DeFi evolves rapidly, this is why it is crucial to follow the news and developments through the various social networks, podcasts and participation in events.
On the other hand, collaboration and networking are fundamental components for professional growth in the blockchain industry. In Argentina in particular, there are several communities that are in constant movement, holding trainings and events. What caught my attention from the beginning is that they are open communities. Any interested person who wants to participate can do so. There is no exclusivity or requirements. It doesn't matter where you come from, if you studied one, two or no career, if you speak English or another language... we are all part of the same community where we share experiences and knowledge. In this area, the inclusion and the potential of the space for networking is highlighted, thus creating diverse projects as career opportunities. The demand for blockchain and DeFi professionals is constantly growing.
In my opinion, another way to build a talented, diverse and inclusive blockchain community is by creating and strengthening connections and collaborations among everyone. A sense of belonging and community is generated by exchanging ideas, knowledge, experiences of success and failure. It can also help amplify and advocate for voices and perspectives in blockchain, and address some of the challenges and issues that women may face in this area, such as discrimination, harassment or lack of representation.
Decentralized finance is the present. And this one requires the active participation and leadership of brave and visionary women who are not afraid to step into this spectacular field. Decentralized finance awaits you, and with it, a world of unlimited possibilities.
