What does "intelligence" mean in this context?
When we talk about intelligence in machines, we mean the ability to:
- Analyze data and find patterns.
- Learn from information (this is called machine learning).
- Make decisions or suggestions based on what they have learned.
- Adapt to new situations without needing to be programmed each time.
What is Artificial Intelligence for?
AI is present in many aspects of modern life, sometimes without us noticing it. Here are some examples:
1. virtual assistants
Siri, Alexa or ChatGPT itself use AI to understand what we say and respond in a useful way.
2. Health
AI helps detect diseases through medical images (such as X-rays) or predict health risks from a patient's history.
3. Finance
It is used to detect fraud, predict market movements and manage automatic investments.
4. Autonomous cars
Companies like Tesla use AI to enable cars to 'see', understand the environment and drive without human intervention.
5. Entertainment and social networks
Netflix, Spotify or TikTok recommend content based on your tastes thanks to AI systems.
6. Education and personalization
Educational tools can adapt to the pace of each student, identifying weaknesses and reinforcing knowledge in a personalized way.
How does AI work?
In simple terms, AI works by training models with data. For example, if we want an AI to recognize cats in photos, we give it thousands of images with and without cats. The system learns to identify common patterns and can then tell if there is a cat in a new image.
Should we be worried?
AI offers many opportunities, but also challenges:
- Data privacy.
- AI-generated misinformation (such as fake images or text).
- Impact on work, as many tasks could be automated.
That is why it is important to develop this technology with ethics, clear regulations and responsibility.
